  • Accessing a wider customer base and increasing your market share. The target business may have distribution channels and customers you can use to sell more of your existing products through and the target business may have products you can cross sell to your existing customers.

  • Reducing competition. Acquiring a competitor can reduce downward price pressure in your market sector and increase profitability.

  • Obtaining production and/or distribution facilities. Target businesses that are only marginally profitable and have underused production or distribution facilities may be acquired for less than the cost of building the same facilities.
